Comments about the Program small logo

The following is a sample of comments received from the general public about the FSP program. Comments are submitted to FSP staff via email, voicemail and letters.

"I wanted to express my thanks to the appropriate person or persons for the Freeway Service Patrol Program. My car broke down after work on Highway 101. I had just pulled off the highway and on my hazard lights when a FSP Truck pulled up behind me. The gentleman identified himself as Steve Pauley and explained the service briefly to me, handing me a brochure. I had never heard of this program/service before. I was overwhelmed! What a wonderful service! I felt like he was my freeway “guardian angel”. He had me on my way, fixing a coolant hose that burst, in a matter of minutes. Both my husband and I want to thank you so much for this terrific service, and we hope that this program is able to continue indefinitely to help all the other people who unfortunately experience these unforeseen, frustrating vehicle breakdowns. This is a real asset to our Bay Area community. Thank you!!!"

"Recently my son’s car was disabled on 101 northbound just South of the San Bruno Ave. exit. The initial trouble was caused by a flat tire on the rear left side of the car. After fixing his own tire, the car would not start and my son could not find the reason why. The Freeway Service Patrol stopped and was able to pinpoint the reason. The driver knew exactly where the problem was. We were thankful for his knowledge of cars and very pleasant manner. We were definitely grateful he was there to help us. It is comforting to know that such a valuable service is available to freeway motorists."

"I had the pleasure this morning of receiving service from the Bay Area Freeway Service Patrol. I ran out of gas at about 8:00 a.m. on Highway 101, when a gentleman showed up within three minutes. He was very helpful in providing gas to me. I just wanted to point out that I just moved here from Texas, and I just registered my car yesterday. Ironically, he pointed out that the dollar that I paid on that registration is what pays for this free service. I am very thrilled that California has this type of service. Thank you very much for this excellent service! "

"We were stalled on the freeway so I called my insurance company. They said it would be an hour to an hour and a half before they could get there. But within minutes your people were there and got me off the side of the freeway and got me rolling. I really appreciate it. The gentleman was very polite, and it was like having an angel stopping by to help us. Keep up the good work. There are those of us out here that did not know about the service, but are certainly happy to have found out about it. Thank you again! "

"I just utilized your service. I did not realize that you had such a service. Even though I filled out your survey, it does not do justice to the personnel that you have that gave me a hand. They went well beyond what you would expect. They were friendly, happy, professional, they knew what they were doing, and very courteous. I could not expect more from somebody. Thank you very much for your service."

"Thank you! I thought I was in for a bad day, but I got help immediately, for free, and was back on the road within 10 minutes. This is a great service for the Bay Area."

"I would like to thank the Freeway Service Patrol for this service. I was so relieved to get help without having to worry about calling for help. Knowing that this service is available, I feel safer with my two little kids on the freeway. Especially since I work far from home, and I always have my little ones with me. Thank you so much!"

"I'm calling because a week ago I had an opportunity to use the FSP for the first time. I didn't even know that it was out there. I had a flat tire on the highway. I drive alone and I can't change a tire by myself. I just wanted to tell you what a wonderful service I thought it was. Somebody was there within about 10 minutes. The fellow that changed the tire was so nice to me. His name was Tom Frayser. I think his service went above and beyond the call of duty. I tried to tip the driver, but he wouldn't accept it. I thought it was a wonderful service."

"I want to thank you for the great service you provide. Yesterday, my car blew a tire right smack in the middle of commute traffic. I was able to pull over to a triangular section where Highway 17 was merging onto Interstate 280. As my car came to a stop, zillions of cars whizzed by and I felt like a sitting duck. Lo and behold, a tow truck pulled up behind me and guided me back into a safer spot. I had no idea who [the driver] was, but he was a gift from heaven. And even more unbelievable - the service was free! "

"I used the Freeway Service Patrol on Monday, and I just wanted to advise you that the driver was wonderful. Let me tell you, he was great. I had just called AAA when your driver pulled over. He handed me a brochure and explained to me what the service was all about. He had such a great attitude. It was pouring down rain and he was out there fixing my tire for free! I tried to give him money for some coffee or something, but he wouldn't accept it. Thank you so much."

"I want to commend you for the service. I just had Mr. Smith pull over and help me. I had never heard of this service before. He offered to change my tire, and I took him up on his offer. He was very courteous and professional. He refused a tip that I offered. I was just completely blown away by the service. Mr. Smith deserves a big thank you from me for his professional work."

"On April 29, as I was on my way to work, I got a flat tire. When I pulled over and got out of my car, to my surprise there was a big white truck behind me. The driver got out of the truck, explained to me who he was and that he would change the tire and that the service was free. I couldn't believe it! I tried to give him a tip and he wouldn't even take it. You know, it's bad enough just having a flat tire and then having to wait for someone to come change it. But to have someone just pop up out of nowhere was a wonderful surprise. I didn't know that this service was out there. Anyway, I just wanted to thank you and your driver, Kevin Mullette, for making me feel safer on my travels and for helping me. Keep up the good work."

"On the morning of [May] 16th my vehicle decided to stall in the third lane. In serious distress, I tried to pull to the side of the road. Joe McDonald very swiftly came to my aid and first made sure that I was emotionally okay, which was very reassuring. He made sure that I knew what he was going to do for me, and [gave me] the pamphlet, [which] was very informative. His first concern was my safety. A man who loves his job and is as comforting as he was should be rewarded for his exceptional work in the field. Thank you."
